The Jim thorpe Trail Coalition Mission
We are a group of trail users working together to maintain Jim Thorpe’s great trails and insure continued and expanded access.
JTTC members volunteer to help maintain existing trails. Working in partnership with local land managers we are able to supplement their maintenance efforts and provide guidance from the user’s perspective. We also provide expert knowledge, and labor, to land managers looking to expand or enhance existing trail networks. Or primary goal is to maintenance and development of sustainable singletrack trails for non-motorized use.
We also advocate for continued and expanded access to Jim Thorpe area wilderness. Many of the area’s trails are legacy trails without clear access agreements in place. The JTTC is working to determine who the land owners are and formalize access agreements. Some of the area’s best trails, which are nationally known, are currently closed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The JTTC supports reopening these trails in a manner which does not impact hunting uses. The JTTC is also pursuing the creation of new singletrack trails on both private and public lands.
The JTTC is made up of mountain bikers, hikers, and business owners who rely on adventure tourism. Members include outdoor enthusiasts from the Jim Thorpe area, as well as from the surrounding counties and states. Jim Thorpe’s trails are so prominent that we have drawn volunteers from New York, New Jersey and Maryland.
